We all must have heard about one of the most popular unsolved mysteries, called the Bermuda triangle. This place is also known by the name of the Devil’s Triangle which happens to be one of such places on this planet that will have you wondering about it. It is located in the southeastern coast of the US, Atlantic Ocean.
The Bermuda triangle covers the sea area of 440,000 miles and is part of a very busy shipping route as a lot of ships head to America, Europe and the Caribbean crossing almost daily.
Due to some inexplicable outcomes, the Bermuda Triangle is a highly studied yet mysterious component of the earth’s surface.
This is because many ships and planes are reported in the world have been enigmatically disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle region. Not only this, but the region has also been blamed for disappearance of thousands of people in the past years.
The term “Bermuda Triangle” was used by Vincent Gaddis in the year 1964 for the very first time. He had mentioned it in his article published in The Argosy magazine.
The stories originated around the Bermuda triangle first begin during the time of Christopher Columbus when he had reportedly seen a flame of fire that crashed into the sea inside the triangle. This happened during his 1stvoyage to the New World.
However, the mysterious behaviour of the region came to the attention of the general public only within the twentieth century. This happened when the Navy ship, USS Cyclops, with over three hundred individuals on board, went missing suddenly in the area. The most recent incident within the region is the disappearance of a twin-engine plane in the month of May this year.
Having four people on board, the plane disappeared suddenly disappeared from the radar as it was flying from Puerto Rico to Florida. Later, the broken remains from the missing plane were found.
During the time of a deadly hurricane in October 2015,
there was also an incident that involved a cargo vessel ship sinking in the Devil’s Triangle Incidents like these are a common occurrence here in this area. With the frequency of them happening so often, many people have come up with their own explanations behind why these mysterious incidents occur.
Some people believe that the Bermuda Triangle has occurrence of paranormal activities and the presence of aliens. Since all the activities occurring there are so odd and unbelievable only something of such nature could be present there. On the other hand, people who have more of a scientific belief towards this believe that such things do not exist are not a rational explanation.
Among some of the proposed scientific explanation, the theory of electromagnetic is more popular. Because of this, compass problems are caused.
This scientific theory claims that there’s a pull of the earth’s natural magnet that is very high. This redirects the compass from the path that they were supposed to take and does not allow them to take the route which was intended through the waters.
Different people have different system of beliefs so no single theory is able to give a clear and accurate explanation to this mystery. Many still believe that there is no strange stuff related to the region because most of the incidents were not accurately reported or were fictionalised versions of accidents that happened.
Despite the fact that there is not one proven theory for the mysterious Bermuda Triangle, accidents continue happening in the region every year.
Among the many other incidents that occurred here, some have truly shocked us. Here’s a list of the most popular stories of disappearance and unresolved mysteries of accidents of ships in the Bermuda Triangle.
Famous Bermuda Triangle Stories
1. USS Cyclops
The USS Cyclops disappearing in the Bermuda Triangle is the largest loss of life in the US Navy’s history within a single incident. It was one of the biggest fuel ships of the Navy.
In the year 1918, the ship was to sail from Brazil to Baltimore via the Bermuda region. It carried manganese ore of 10,800 tons with almost 309 crew members on board. The ship had set off on a fairly good day and even the messages indicated that there was no sort of any trouble.
However, no one heard from the ship again. The entire area was searched and examined for the ship, but there was not even a single clue of it. Nothing has been found related to it, not even the remains of the ship or the crew. The USS Cyclop’s captain had never sent a distress signal. Also, no one aboard replied to radio calls of other vessels in the vicinity.
The naval failed in explaining the disappearance, even if there were different theories suggesting various reasons.
Due to disappearing mysteriously, Cyclops is on the list of more than 100 ships and planes that vanished under strange and unexplainable circumstances in the Bermuda triangle.
2. Mary Celeste
Mary Celeste was a ship that was found adrift in other in the Atlantic Ocean. It is said that the Bermuda triangle has some connection to this disappearing.
After starting its journey beginning NY to Genoa in Italy, it was discovered on 4th of December 1872. Everything was in its place in the ship without any damage. The only thing missing was the entire crew, the ship was stranded on the sea for days.
The ship contained seven crew members along with Captain Benjamin Briggs. His wife and their small daughter were also aboard. The ship had raw alcohol too.
A passing British ship called Dei Gratia later came across Mary Celeste that was under partial sail in the Atlantic. The ship had no one abroad, and even the lifeboat was not there.
It was also noted that nine cargo barrels were empty and a sword was seen on the deck. Till this date, no trace of people abroad or the lifeboat that was missing has ever been found.
It is believed that this could be a case of a pirate attack since the things on the ship that included alcohol barrels and the valuable belongings of the crew were intact.
Other theories of the Mary Celeste included a conspiracy of some criminals, abduction by aliens, and even a giant squid attack.
The possibility of the occurrence of a natural disaster was on the list too. Many suggested there could have been an undersea earthquake, few even proposed accidental incursion of the ship into the Devil’s Triangle.
Nevertheless, all these reasons seem reasonable but they still don’t fit. After all, what would be the reason behind a skilled crew that too on a day with nice weather leaving their ship unattained and then never return again?

To get back with Ellen Austin, the captain had kept a prize for the crew on the ship. Two days after sailing on calm waters, a storm parted the path of those two ships, after which the run down had vanished.
According to some stories heard, even day after the storm, Captain Baker could only find the vessel by his spyglass. He realized the vessel had drifted away once again aimlessly. And after putting effort for some hours, Ellen Austin caught up with the vessel.
